No matter whether it takes place at home or at a restaurant, certain customs are cherished: before the reception begins the bride is supposed to say her new surname, then a porcelain plate is dropped on the floor and the newly-weds must sweep the broken glass together. That custom is based on two superstitions at once – the one superstition is that broken glass brings luck, the other being that during common cleaning the couple shows willingness to co-operate which signalizes that the marriage will be happy. The groom then carries the bride over the threshold, and later they eat soup out of one plate.
